Doxycycline Hydrochloride + Gentamicin
Doxycycline Hydrochloride + Gentamicin is a combination of antibiotics used in veterinary medicine. Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, whereas Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and disrupts bacterial protein synthesis.
This combination of antibiotics is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in animals caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria that are sensitive to doxycycline and/or gentamicin.
The dosage and administration of Doxycycline Hydrochloride + Gentamicin depend on the animal's weight and the severity of the infection. The veterinarian should determine the appropriate dose and frequency of administration.
- This combination of antibiotics should not be used in animals that are hypersensitive to doxycycline or gentamicin.
- Use with caution in animals with renal impairment as both drugs are eliminated through the kidneys.
- Prolonged use of antibiotics may result in bacterial or fungal overgrowth, which may require cessation of treatment and appropriate therapy.
- Do not use in animals intended for human consumption.
- Use with caution in pregnant or lactating animals.
Contraindication
This combination of antibiotics is contraindicated in animals that are hypersensitive to doxycycline or gentamicin.
None known.
It is also contraindicated in animals with a history of liver or kidney disease, as well as in animals intended for human consumption.
