Azelastin Hydrochloride

Azelastine is a histamine H1 receptor antagonist, which means it works by blocking the effects of histamine on H1 receptors. Histamine is a substance that is released by cells in response to an allergen, causing symptoms such as itching, redness, and swelling in allergic conditions. When histamine binds to H1 receptors, it triggers the release of other chemical mediators that contribute to the allergic reaction.

By blocking the effects of histamine on H1 receptors, azelastine reduces the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and other allergic conditions.

Azelastin HCl is indicated for the following conditions-

  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis

  • Azelastine is available in nasal spray and eye drop formulations.
  • Nasal spray: The recommended dose is 1 to 2 sprays in each nostril twice daily.
  • Eye drops: The recommended dose is 1 to 2 drops in each affected eye twice daily.
  • Follow the product label instructions and shake the bottle well before use.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or other surfaces to prevent contamination.

  • Common side effects of azelastine include headache, drowsiness, fatigue, nasal burning, nasal dryness, nasal itching, nasal discharge, and nasal congestion.
  • If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, stop using azelastine and seek medical attention immediately.

  • Azelastine may cause drowsiness or impaired judgment, so do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • If symptoms persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider.
