Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone

Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone is classified as a hemostatic agent. Its mechanism of action involves its vasoconstrictive properties and its ability to promote platelet aggregation. Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone is thought to induce hemostasis by facilitating the formation of blood clots and reducing bleeding from capillaries.

Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone is indicated for the control and prevention of bleeding in various medical and surgical conditions where enhanced hemostasis is required. It is commonly used in the following situations:

  1. Postoperative Hemorrhage:

    • To control bleeding after surgical procedures.
  2. Dental Procedures:

    • To manage bleeding during dental extractions or oral surgeries.
  3. Epistaxis (Nosebleeds):

    • To arrest bleeding from the nasal mucosa.

To prevent and address capillary bleedings, the recommended dosage varies based on the severity of the condition, ranging from 4 to 12 tablets distributed throughout the day, preferably one hour before meals. Before surgical procedures, the medication is initiated on the evening preceding the surgery, administered either orally or through intramuscular or subcutaneous injection, typically in the range of 1.5 to 5 mg. Additionally, an injection is administered approximately thirty minutes before the surgical intervention. In emergency situations, the injection solution may be given intravenously. Oral administration is recommended for the tablets.

Adverse reactions are listed from most common to least common:

  • Localized pain or discomfort at the injection site.
  • Allergic reactions, including rash and itching.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Transient changes in blood pressure.
  • Formation of hematomas at the injection site.
  • Allergic Reactions: Monitor for signs of allergic reactions, especially in patients with a history of allergies. Discontinue use if severe allergic reactions occur.
  • Blood Pressure Changes: Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone may cause transient changes in blood pressure. Monitor blood pressure during administration, especially in patients with cardiovascular conditions.
  • Renal Impairment: Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, as the drug may be excreted by the kidneys. Adjust the dosage based on renal function.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation: Limited data are available on the use of Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone during pregnancy and lactation. Consult a healthcare professional before use in pregnant or lactating individuals.
